#1 - Let me start with a quote:
“Obsessing about tech/ai is a hobby many new advisors take up after making the unconscious decision to go back to their old job.”
~ Jason Mirabella, of Deliver Advice
Jason has some zingers, let me tell you!
Basically, in the past day or so, more than one person has told me that I’m making the whole “advisortech” situation worse for advisors by always talking about various solutions.
That is most certainly not my goal. I love tech and sharing about it, and helping advisors to navigate it, but if the quantity of my content is causing more harm than good, well then… I’d like to change that.
So I shall. I’m not going to mention any specific tech solutions on any platform until my book is released on Feb 20th. If you want to know about the tech I think is epic, check out the website - www.advisortechbook.com
#2 - content overwhelm
Yes, there is way too much content, and it’s probably just going to get worse. So I’m at least going to cut back on my emails - just one per week for now (this will be the only one you get this week).
Some thoughts - content (like emails) is disposable, you don’t have to read every email, listen to every podcast, attend every webinar…
Identify your #1 goal, and focus on the content related to that, delete all the other stuff. If you’re keeping a read later list, delete the whole thing.
Kitces recently got a similar question, so I figured I would share:
#3 - overwhelmingly, advisors need help with lead gen, not tech (they often fiddle with tech/processes as an excuse to not prospect)
Back to Jason’s quote at the beginning…
My one email per week for the foreseeable future (like a month) will be just on lead gen.
If this is your main pain point, revisit my recent post:
Solving Lead Gen
As I promote my upcoming book on the socials, more than once I’ve gotten a comment like:
I highly recommend you pick a niche… and go talk to them.
And cancel some of your tech subscriptions - frees up cash flow, time, brain space…
If you want, send me a list of your tech stack, and I’ll let you know what to cancel. :)
So to sum up, pausing all tech talk right now, throttling my emails, and focusing on writing about lead gen.
Until next week.
Warmly,
Joe
